I almost bought this when MW2 came out and decided after Christmas to get one. There are in/out of stock and finally found the $40 one (w/o the storage box) at Walmart. Best Buy was 2 weeks out on stock.

    Pro

    1. Lightweight.

    2. Crisp button / joysticks

    3. Elastomer coating is easy on the hands

    4. Me likey the trigger action!!

    Cons

    1. Corded??? Hello?…M$ must be working hard to ensure no 3rd party wireless controllers…or was MadKatz at fault?

    2. The bumper buttons are out of place.

    3. The “action” shortcut buttons on the bottom are out of place and don’t have a tactile ‘click’ to them.

    4. D-pad is smaller and stiffer than M$ version…but for MW2 it’s not that big a deal.

    5. Cost is a little high for a wired controller.

    6. The green backlighting looks cool but in a dark room it can be distracting from gameplay.

    Review

I should start off by saying I was REALLY looking forward to the bottom mounted ‘action’ buttons. When sprinting or holding your breathe (by pressing down on the left joystick) I had a tendancy to move around…I thought this would solve that. It would have if they had positioned or increased the size of the bottom buttons. They are only 5mm diameter and don’t have a positive ‘click’ like the joysticks. They DO work but not as well as I thought they would. Having said that the controller itself is very nice. VERY crisp action and the A-B-Y-X buttons, even though flat, seem easier to use. The coating and ‘textured gun grips’ make it grippy and conformal…very nice. The right and left bumpers are too high and do not stick out far enough…total crap design there. The triggers are REALLY nice. smaller and with a shorter stroke than the OEM ones. The reason I say the bumpers and action buttons are not positioned well is beacause the triggers are perfect but you have to radically relocate to use the other buttons….I had some friends with shorter and longer fingers try it and all agreed with this conclusion. The green LED backlight joysticks are cool looking but in a dark room (with only the TV on) they can be a little distracting.

All in all….I would give this 3.5 out of 5.

Kudo’s for some design aspects but the price (for it being corded) is the crusher. When these hit $29 they will jump to a 4.0/4.5 for most people.

    Rating: 3 / 5
